A Message from the Education Director
As each year comes to a close, it is important to take time to reflect. This quiet space allows us to find the many successes and challenges that helped to shape the school year.
The students and their
achievements are at the forefront of
my reflection this year. Yet again, we
asked our students to change and
accept what they know about the learning process and environment as we worked to return to a more typical day and structure. While this was hard for some, many others thrived and flourished in the academic and social environments. It was amazing to hear the excitement and laughter
in learning as the students demonstrated their knowledge in hands-on experiments, exciting debates and activities that allowed them to show off their creativity and problem solving skills. The euphonious sounds of the classrooms, the smiles and bright eyes of the students showed growing confidence and happiness once again.
Forever supporting the students on their road to success was an amazing group of families, faculty and staff. Each one of their team members rose to the occasion, bringing to the table knowledge that allowed for measurable growth in both academics and social skills. Mediators continued to build their knowledge about best practices in the classrooms to help with reading, writing, mathematics and social learning. Families worked with mediators
to communicate their individual child’s strengths and then helped to implement these strategies at home so that their child had the opportunity to
showcase what he or she had learned
in the classroom that day. Staff helped to provide communication to all so
that each knew of and understood expectations and could plan for events. Confidence continued to grow in all areas because of the support system that was in place.
While this year may not have been perfect, the shift to develop confidence and
friendships began to take hold once again as we opened the doors for more in-person activities including Trunk or Treat, Yard Goats baseball games, an art show and the much needed graduation and awards night. These events not only continue to build the foundation for a strong community, but they help our students showcase their talents and build the confidence that they need to be successful in their future endeavors.
Finally, I would like to congratulate our students, families and staff on an amazing year that showcased academic and problem solving achievements. Good luck to our seniors as you embark on your next journey!
